My Thoughts after 60

Top Tips for Radiant Skin After 60

Trying to navigate a skincare routine. One that might not break the budget but will do[…]

Skincare is more than just products; it’s a holistic approach to wellness. Taking care of your skin should be more of a calming routine than just a chore. It is a chance to take the time to wind down or take that moment for yourself. This is the time for you, to make up for those moments missed over the years of raising children and work. It is also a time in the evenings to reflect on the past and to plan for your future.

  • Diet & Hydration: A diet rich in antioxidants (think berries and leafy greens) and healthy fats (avocado, nuts) supports skin health from the inside out. And remember to drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated. To make this easier, have the items ready and stored in the frig. Make it just as easy to grab a glass of water and bowl of berries as it is to grab a cookie or soft drink.
  • Don’t Smoke: Smoking is one of the fastest ways to age your skin, as it damages collagen and elastin and restricts blood flow.

  • Professional Treatments: Consider consulting a dermatologist to discuss professional treatments that can complement your at-home routine, if they bother you. I choose to look at my lines and wrinkles as badges of my age. However, I still use some over-the-counter products to help my skin weather the storm of aging yet. In the last year or so I’ve gotten into using face masks. But if all the over the counter stuff is just too much and too confusing then a dermatologist is worth consulting. Options like chemical peels, laser treatments, or microneedling can effectively address specific concerns like hyperpigmentation and loss of firmness.
